I have decided to write a piece about how Reflexology and Reiki can assist in Good Health and Wellbeing, as it occurred to me that often people come in for treatment when suffering specific symptoms. I find myself thinking how much better it would be if we all took action to keep ourselves well.
Although i realise this is a generalisation, a lot of people are only aware of health when they start suffering symptoms, nothing is taught about keeping ourselves well and in good health. Historically a Chinese doctor was paid a retainer to keep their patients healthy. That sounds such a sensible way to live. It is clear that we must take responsibility for our own health and how much nicer to keep ourselves well.
Good health is about far more than the absence of disease, it is about being physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually well balanced and happy.
HOW CAN WE ACHIEVE WELLBEING
To achieve good health we can do many things and just as we are all individual, so there is no one diet, exercise regime or emotional/spiritual practise that suits everyone but the following are things that can be considered as part of keeping us well:
- Diet – eating a good well balanced diet with lots of organic fruit, vegetables and meat (unless vegetarian or vegan). A diet is a very individual thing but avoiding processed food, sugary drinks and too much alcohol are sensible suggestions. Drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated.
- Exercise – this is also an individual thing as some like cardio exercise while others walking, yoga or tai chi. There have been recommendations of late that about 30 minutes of exercise daily is good but that is not always easy to achieve if you have a busy lifestyle. One thing i think sensible is finding an exercise that you enjoy, as you are far more likely to stick to it if you enjoy what you are doing.
- Meditation – by this i mean something that feeds the soul, it can be prayer, meditation or simply relaxing listening to music.
REFLEXOLOGY AND REIKI CAN ASSIST IN WELLBEING
Reflexology assists a person to remain in good health, as well as helping them when symptoms arise. This is why i am mentioning it in a piece on Wellbeing.
I will keep my explanation of how Reflexology works as brief as possible here, however far more detailed information is available on the Treatment page of my website.
There are over 7,000 nerve endings on each foot (reflex points) that correspond to the organs and systems of the body. By stimulating these reflex points with specific pressure techniques Reflexology can assist in keeping the body in balance. It also helps with circulation and elimination of toxins.
Having regular (depending on each individuals needs) Reflexology sessions greatly helps with a persons Wellbeing.
Reflexology can also help balance a body already struggling as it can bring about the following:
Relief from Insomnia
Reduction of Stress and Anxiety
Relief from Headaches and Migraines
Helps with Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Improves Energy Levels
Improves General Health
Reiki works very gently to balance energy and promote good health, this is why it is wonderful for general wellbeing. Prevention is far better than cure.
Reiki is an ancient form of hands on healing, which originated in Japan. The practitioner places their hands on the patient in a series of different positions, each position is held for a few minutes depending on what is being treated and how the energy feels. The aim of Reiki is encouraging a good flow of energy from head to toe. Personally I often find that areas where the energy is impeded feel cold.
The person being treated remains fully clothed and lies on a couch or can be seated if more comfortable.
Most people having a Reiki session not only relax very deeply but often fall asleep. So what else can Reiki do:
Sooth the nervous system
Release stress and tension
Promote better sleeping patterns
Boost low energy states
Apart from Reflexology and Reiki there are Tissue Salts that can assist in Wellbeing and I can give advice on these during a session.
I think it makes so much sense to look after ourselves, rather than rely on a doctor or practitioner when things go wrong. We look after our cars by having them serviced regularly but often neglect our own body’s. By looking at our diets, exercising regularly, taking time to meditate, or do something that we enjoy can make such a difference to our lives. Having regular Reflexology or Reiki can help reduce stress, improve sleeping patterns, calm the nervous system and give the body time to balance.
